Arrests only to curb anti-govt movement: Fakhrul

The government is arresting BNP leaders and activists in a bid to curb its anti-government campaign and the party’s reorganisation, BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.

Referring to the recent arrest of Jubo Dal chief Moazzem Hossain Alal and 63 other members of BNP and its associate organisations, Fakhrul said those proved that the “Hasina government” was running the country in a “fascist and autocratic manner.”
“In spite of arrest and torture of the party’s leaders and activists, BNP will go for the anti-government movement in due time,” he added.
The comments were made while talking to reporters after Fakhrul and Jubo Dal leaders placed wreaths at the grave of Ziaur Rahman in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
“We are reorganising the party and its front organisations as part of our preparation for the anti-government movement. But the government has started arresting our leaders en mass and remanding them to curb the process.”
